Operant Conditioning

Burrhus Frederic Skinner was born March 20, 1904, in the small Pennsylvania town of Susquehanna.

In June 1945, Skinner was appointed chairman of Indiana University's Department of Psychology.

Skinner's Operant Conditioning theories stated that:

"A behavior followed by a reinforcing stimulus results in an increased probability of that behavior occurring in the future."

What he means by this is that by repeating a behaviour, eventually, the brain learns and stores it almost habitually... it becomes instinctual.

If you BEHAVE like an anxious person, you'll become an anxious person! Stands to reason really doesn't it!

Skinner's theories became the cornerstone for modern psychology's theories on behaviour, instinct and habit.

On 18th August, 1990, Skinner died; but he did so as the most celebrated psychologist of his time, with the exception of Freud of course!
